G&T Announces Inclusive Environment Award Sponsorship

Gardiner & Theobald has announced it is sponsoring the Construction Industry Council’s (CIC) Inclusive Environment Award 2017.

CIC has embraced the need to improve the construction industry’s response to inclusive design and is this year responsible for taking the Built Environment Professional Education (BEPE) project forward - a Government initiative to improve knowledge and skills in inclusive design. As part of this effort it launched the Inclusive Design Award in 2016 which is an “award of awards” celebrating exemplar schemes previously recognised by a CIC member.

“G&T is delighted to sponsor this award in 2017 which recognises excellence in accessible and inclusive design. By encouraging those who design, construct and manage buildings, places and spaces to make their developments and property assets open for all to enjoy we will see our built environment change for the better in the years to come.”

Tony Burton, G&T Partner and Deputy Chairman of the CIC

CIC will launch the award and call for nominations on 9th March 2017 during a reception at Five Pancras Square in King’s Cross – last year’s winner of the Inclusive Environment Award – which will be attended by the Minister for Disabled People, Work and Health, Penny Mordaunt MP. The winner of the Inclusive Design Award 2017 will be announced at the CIC’s Council meeting in October.

BEPE was launched by the Government on International Day of Disabled People in December 2013 to build on the legacy of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, which showcased the value to society of inclusive design in the built environment. The aim of the BEPE project has been to inspire changes to professional standards and competencies, and raise the profile of inclusive design among professional educators and students.
