“If you’re considering a career in surveying I would say do it! It really is a buzzing industry to be a part of.”

Billy started as a work experience placement and is now a trainee mechanical and electrical surveyor.

"Since leaving school I tailored my education towards the construction industry. I went to college to study plumbing and worked as a plumber for two years before doing work experience at G&T and joining full time in 2015 as a trainee quantity surveyor.

During my time here I’ve worked on some amazing projects such as Battersea Power Station, Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital, London City Island and many more. Being part of these iconic projects makes the job very interesting and I enjoy seeing a project develop from a basic sketch design to a completed, functioning building.

It’s hard to describe a typical day due to the variety of work. One day I could be on site carrying out a valuation, the next I could be in a design team meeting or cost planning, measuring or even agreeing variations. There is so much depth to a quantity surveyor’s role it’s difficult to have a ‘typical day’.

I like the friendly environment here at G&T, everyone is very approachable and the sports teams offer a great opportunity to have a laugh with colleagues."
