Challenge
The IFA2 project spans a 240 km high-voltage DC interconnector between Fareham in Hampshire and Tourbe in Normandy, designed to transport 1,000 MW of electricity across the Channel. The primary challenge was delivering contract administration services across multiple jurisdictions—including submarine cable laying, converter station works on both sides, and coordination with National Grid and RTE—while supporting complex procurement and regulatory compliance for a major cross-border infrastructure scheme.
Solution
G&T provided Contract Administration services throughout IFA2’s construction, managing contracts within both UK and French legal and operational frameworks, ensuring all deliverables—from subsea cabling to converter station commissioning—adhere to technical, budgetary and regulatory standards. Through proactive risk monitoring, stakeholder liaison, and detailed commercial oversight, we helped to maintain project integrity across a transnational delivery environment.
Outcome
The IFA2 interconnector project is now complete, delivering 1 GW of bi-directional power capacity—enough to supply one million homes. This major milestone strengthens UK–France energy integration and enhances resilience to support the exchange of renewable energy. G&T’s rigorous contract administration was instrumental in upholding delivery standards throughout the development of this critical energy infrastructure.
