Challenge
John Dewar & Sons is undertaking the expansion of its Poniel site near Glasgow into a major whisky maturation and blending complex. The phased development includes 18 bonded warehouses—each with the capacity to store up to 72,000 casks—alongside a centralised tank farm and blend centre. The project presents several challenges, including the staged delivery of key infrastructure, coordination of essential utilities such as SUDS, sprinklers, IT and road access, and the integration of innovative technologies to enhance spirit quality and energy efficiency.
Solution
G&T is currently providing Cost Management and Project Management services across the masterplan. From initial feasibility through to phased construction, the team has developed detailed cost plans, overseen procurement processes, and maintained financial governance. G&T continues to support the implementation of advanced technologies, including energy-efficient conveyors, water mixers and automated cask-handling systems. Our ongoing role is helping to ensure that each phase remains within budget, progresses on programme, and adheres to the client's sustainability and operational targets.
Outcome
Construction phases continue on site, with warehouse and tank farm infrastructure advancing as planned. Once operational, the blended facility will offer state-of-the-art energy‑efficient systems and large‑scale maturation capacity—all set within a cohesive 100‑acre campus. G&T’s ongoing management helps ensure delivery value, enables technology adoption, and supports John Dewar’s ambition to scale production sustainably.
