Challenge
London Gatwick initiated a £2 billion Capital Investment Plan in January 2023 with the aim of modernising its infrastructure and improving passenger experience. However, Gatwick’s internal procurement and commercial functions were not equipped to manage a programme of this scale. The airport needed a tailored strategy to strengthen its supply chain, ensure resilience, and embed sustainability targets—while maintaining value and control across multiple large-scale design and construction frameworks.
Solution
G&T was appointed to rebuild and develop London Gatwick’s Capital Procurement Team, offering Cost Management and Procurement services. We shaped and implemented a comprehensive Supply Chain Strategy, established new procurement frameworks, and oversaw a Strategic Supplier Relationship model. We introduced supplier performance tracking—covering delivery, commercial integrity, and sustainability—aligned with PAS 2080 carbon reduction principles. We also devised clear KPIs to promote use of local/regional suppliers and monitor the attainment of Gatwick’s sustainability objectives.
Outcome
G&T’s strategic guidance has transformed Gatwick’s procurement and commercial capabilities, creating a more agile and accountable function able to manage the demands of a £2 billion capital programme. The introduction of a structured supplier relationship model and measurable performance criteria has strengthened supply chain resilience and transparency. By embedding sustainability targets and regional engagement into procurement practices, G&T has helped Gatwick build a platform for long-term value, efficient delivery, and responsible growth.
