Lord's - Allen Stand

From heritage stand to modern grandstand

Redeveloping a 1930s icon to meet contemporary expectations at the Home of Cricket

Client

Marylebone Cricket Club

Location

London

Completion

2027

Challenge

The original Allen Stand at Lord’s Cricket Ground, constructed in the 1930s, no longer meets current structural and safety standards. In addition to significant physical deterioration, the stand falls short of modern expectations for accessibility, capacity, and inclusivity. The new stand needs to be completed in May 2027 ahead of the World Test Championship and Ashes Test but a critical challenge is the requirement for the new stand’s external seating to be operational for the 2026 cricket season during mid-construction, placing significant pressure on sequencing and programme delivery within a highly constrained and high-profile environment.

Solution

G&T is providing Cost Management and Project Management services to support the successful redevelopment of the Allen Stand. Our team has advised on procurement strategy and contractor selection to strike the right balance between programme certainty, budget control and quality outcomes. We are managing the complex phasing and sequencing required to meet MCC’s operational deadlines for the 2026 and 2027 cricket seasons, while also supporting decision-making around value engineering and lifecycle costs. The new stand design enhances capacity and accessibility, delivering improved spectator amenities while aligning with the overall masterplan for Lord’s.

Outcome

Once complete, the new Allen Stand will offer an enhanced spectator experience through improved sightlines, greater inclusivity, additional amenities, and increased capacity. The redevelopment also secures the long-term viability of the stand, aligning with the broader ambition to sustain Lord’s reputation as a world-class sporting venue and its rightful place as the Home of Cricket. G&T’s strategic input is helping ensure the successful, phased delivery of the project, aligned to the critical 2026 seasonal and 2027 completion milestones.
