Challenge
Lancashire Cricket Club aimed to establish a second ground in the heart of the county to alleviate pressure on Emirates Old Trafford and to provide a dedicated Centre of Excellence for women's cricket. The challenge was to develop a facility that caters to both professional and community cricket, integrating seamlessly into the Green Belt landscape while meeting the diverse needs of players, spectators and the local community.
Solution
G&T is providing Cost Management services for the development of the cricket ground. The project includes a main pitch designed to host occasional county and T20 matches for up to 5,000 spectators, a secondary pitch for youth and community use, a dual-aspect pavilion serving both pitches and a partially covered external practice area. The design incorporates natural sloping terraces for elevated viewing and sustainable features to preserve the openness of the Green Belt.
Outcome
The Farington facility is set to become Lancashire Cricket’s second home, with the first innings anticipated in the 2026 season. It will serve as a North West Centre of Excellence for women’s cricket and support the development of community, youth and disability cricket across the region. G&T's expertise will help deliver a high-quality, sustainable facility that balances elite performance requirements with community engagement—supporting the long-term success of the project.
