Challenge
The project involved transforming the Grade II Listed Camden Town Hall Annexe into The Standard's first hotel outside the United States. This required balancing the preservation of the building's Brutalist architectural heritage with the creation of a contemporary, vibrant hospitality space. The development included a three-storey rooftop extension featuring a destination bar and restaurant with panoramic views of London, accessed via an external lift. Achieving this within a constrained urban site opposite St Pancras Station presented significant logistical and financial challenges.
Solution
G&T provided Cost Management services, working closely with the client and the design teams to ensure the project remained within budget without compromising on quality or design. Our expertise facilitated effective financial planning and control, addressing the complexities of integrating modern luxury amenities within a historic structure. Their proactive approach helped navigate cost-related challenges associated with the rooftop extension and the bespoke interior fit-out by Shawn Hausman Design.
Outcome
The Standard now offers 266 uniquely styled rooms, including suites with outdoor bathtubs overlooking St Pancras Station. The hotel features two restaurants, a garden area, and a sound studio for events, creating a dynamic and sociable atmosphere. G&T's cost management ensured the delivery of a high-quality, award-winning hospitality venue that respects its architectural heritage while providing modern luxury experiences.
