Challenge
Twickenham, the esteemed home of English rugby, underwent a critical stadium upgrade ahead of hosting major international fixtures, including the Rugby World Cup 2015. The works needed to be carried out within a live venue schedule, ensuring continuity for fans and players while integrating cutting-edge infrastructure—such as LED screens, advanced ticketing, and new energy systems—without disrupting events or exceeding cost constraints.
Solution
G&T provided expert Cost Management services, overseeing cost planning, benchmarking, contract analysis and value engineering. Collaborating closely with the Rugby Football Union, main contractors, and design consultants, we managed the rollout of a new energy centre, sustainable M&E distribution, and enhanced audiovisual systems. This ensured financial control across complex upgrades while supporting world-class spectator and player amenities.
Outcome
The programme was delivered successfully before the Rugby World Cup, transforming Twickenham into a state-of-the-art stadium. Upgrades included new hospitality spaces, digital ticketing, and sustainable energy infrastructure—all achieved within budget and without disrupting the event schedule. G&T’s cost oversight ensured the investment reinforced Twickenham’s global status, delivering both operational efficiency and long-term value for the RFU.
