Challenge
Inverness Castle, a prominent historic site in the Scottish Highlands, had long been inaccessible to the public, serving various governmental functions over the years. The challenge was to repurpose this iconic structure into a vibrant visitor attraction that would celebrate Highland heritage and culture, while preserving its architectural integrity. This transformation required meticulous planning, significant investment, and collaboration among multiple stakeholders to ensure the castle could serve as a welcoming gateway to the region.
Solution
G&T provided comprehensive Cost Management services to oversee the financial aspects of the Inverness Castle redevelopment. Collaborating closely with LDN Architects and other partners, we played a pivotal role in transforming the castle into the Inverness Castle Experience. This included the construction of a contemporary link building, inspired by the Scottish Saltire, to seamlessly connect the existing structures. Our expertise ensured that the project adhered to budgetary constraints while achieving the desired architectural and cultural outcomes.
Outcome
The redevelopment has successfully revitalised Inverness Castle, creating a dynamic cultural hub that showcases the spirit of the Highlands. The project reached significant milestones, such as the completion of glazing on the new link building and the restoration of the historic Rose Window in the South Tower. These enhancements have not only preserved the castle's heritage but also introduced modern amenities, including the Saltire Bistro, offering visitors a unique blend of history and contemporary Scottish hospitality. G&T's Cost Management services were instrumental in delivering a project that balances historical preservation with modern functionality, contributing to the cultural and economic growth of Inverness and the wider Highlands region.
