Challenge
The University of Leeds aimed to redevelop the second and third floors of its historic Parkinson Building to create state-of-the-art facilities for its Language Centre. The challenge was to modernise the teaching and learning environments while preserving the building's Grade II Listed status. Additionally, the project sought to improve the building's fabric and mechanical and electrical systems, including lighting and ventilation, to enhance comfort and energy efficiency.
Solution
G&T, as project managers, collaborated closely with the design and delivery teams to ensure the project's success. Our role involved overseeing the coordination between various consultants and contractors, managing timelines, and ensuring that the refurbishment met both the university's functional requirements and heritage conservation standards. This collaborative approach facilitated the integration of modern facilities within the historic structure.
Outcome
The project successfully delivered sector-leading teaching and learning facilities, enhancing the student and staff experience. The modernised spaces now offer a comfortable and energy-efficient environment, aligning with the university's sustainability goals. G&T's project management expertise ensured the refurbishment was completed effectively, respecting the building's historical significance while providing contemporary educational amenities.
