Delivering the Mackintosh Illuminated Project

It's a key part of the National Trust for Scotland’s 10-year strategy to protect and celebrate Scotland’s natural, built, and cultural heritage.

The project involves two A-listed properties: The Hill House in Helensburgh and Mackintosh at the Willow in Glasgow’s Sauchiehall Street. The Hill House, constructed between 1902 and 1904 for publisher Walter Blackie and his family, is widely regarded as the finest domestic design by architect Charles Rennie Mackintosh, created in collaboration with his wife, artist Margaret MacDonald.

“We are delighted to secure this extremely prestigious project and to extend our highly valued working relationship with The National Trust for Scotland.”

Kevin Bryson

G&T Partner

The project has benefitted from one of the largest National Lottery Heritage Awards in recent years in Scotland, reflecting the significance nationally of both Mackintosh and his designer wife Margaret Macdonald.

Gardiner & Theobald will join the team responsible for designing and delivering the construction works at the Hill House, contributing to the preservation and enhancement of this iconic Scottish landmark.
