Challenge
The London Borough of Wandsworth aimed to enhance educational and community facilities within the Nine Elms Park Development, a significant regeneration area on the south bank of the River Thames. The objective was to create a mixed-use development that would provide a two-form entry primary school, a children's nursery, and community sports facilities under one roof. The challenge lay in designing a sustainable and innovative "Healthy School" that met government design standards while integrating seamlessly into a densely built urban environment.
Solution
To address this challenge, the London Borough of Wandsworth appointed G&T to provide Cost Management and Project Management services for the development. The design, led by Arcadis, features an educationally driven layout that prioritises sustainability and future-proofing. The school is surrounded by wildlife gardens and play areas, encouraging children to engage with nature and enhancing local biodiversity. The building also incorporates community sports facilities, fostering a sense of community and promoting healthy lifestyles.
Outcome
Upon completion, the new facility will offer high-quality educational spaces alongside community amenities, serving as a central hub within the Nine Elms regeneration area. The integration of wildlife gardens and play areas will provide students with opportunities to connect with nature, supporting their well-being and education. G&T's expertise in Cost and Project Management has been instrumental in realising this vision, ensuring that the development meets the borough's objectives for sustainability, educational excellence, and community engagement.
