Challenge
The communities of Glenburn and St Ninian's in Prestwick required modern educational facilities to replace aging infrastructure and accommodate current educational needs. The challenge was to design and construct a shared campus that would serve both primary schools and their associated early years provisions, ensuring each institution retained its unique identity while fostering a collaborative environment. Additionally, the project aimed to achieve high sustainability standards, operating entirely on electric power.
Solution
To address this need, South Ayrshire Council, in collaboration with Hub South West, commissioned the development of the Prestwick Educational Campus. G&T provided Cost Management and Principal Designer & CDM Consultancy services, ensuring the project met budgetary constraints and adhered to safety and design regulations. The campus features 22 classrooms and multi-purpose rooms spread over two storeys, along with a sports hall and an Early Years centre. Sustainability was a key focus, with the campus running purely on electric power through the installation of solar roof panels and air source heat pumps.
Outcome
Upon completion, the Prestwick Educational Campus successfully replaced the existing Glenburn and St Ninian's Primary Schools, providing modern and engaging environments for learning. The inclusion of outdoor amenities such as an all-weather pitch, allotment, sensory garden, and willow garden has enhanced the school's offerings, benefiting both pupils and the local community. G&T's involvement was instrumental in delivering a project that not only meets current educational needs but also aligns with South Ayrshire Council's sustainability goals.
