Manchester's First Boutique Hotel set for Refurbishment
The Hut Group has submitted plans to Manchester City Council for the refurbishment of the existing Great John Street Hotel in Castlefield.
G&T is providing Cost Management, Employer's Agent and Principal Designer & CDM Consultancy services alongside the scheme's architects, EPR Architects, heritage consultant Heritage Architecture, services and structural engineer WSP as well as lighting consultant Studio 29 and Assent as building control.
Plans for the Grade II Listed building, which lies within the Castlefield Conservation Area, include a single-storey glass extension, reconfiguration of the roof-top bar and bedroom upgrades together with an external glass lift shaft. The ground floor will be fully refurbished with sections of the mezzanine balcony removed to create a double-height space across the ground floor.
"We are delighted to support our client with their venture into the hospitality sector and the refurbishment on such a well-known building"
The building, located on the corner of Atherton Street and Great John Street, was built in 1910 as Atherton County Primary School and subsequently became part of the Granada Studios TV complex before opening as a hotel in 2005.
