Lower Thames Crossing Gtwebland

Lower Thames Crossing

The Lower Thames Crossing is the largest single road investment programme in the UK since the M25 was completed more than 30 years ago. The proposed new road connecting Kent, Thurrock, Essex and Havering through two tunnels beneath the River Thames will almost double road capacity across the river, east of London.

On the south side of the River Thames, the new road will link the tunnel to the A2 and M2 in Kent. On the north side, it will link to the A13 in Thurrock and junction 29 of the M25 in the London Borough of Havering.

The project comprises the longest road tunnels in the UK - two tunnels of approximately 2.6 miles in length and at approximately 16m diameter, the tunnels will be amongst the largest diameter bored tunnels in the world. There will be around 50 new bridges, viaducts and new structures alongside two new public parks, over 260 hectares of new woodland and over 28 miles of new and improved footpaths and cycleways.

Working with partners and suppliers to reduce planned carbon emissions during construction, Lower Thames Crossing is the first major infrastructure project to use the procurement process to target carbon and is currently out to market for a supplier of Lower Carbon Hydrogen to fuel a large proportion of the construction plant.

G&T has supported the Lower Thames Crossing project for over two years. Our services provision continues to evolve to meet the needs of the project and we are currently providing Procurement Services, Commercial Review and Assurance, Benchmarking Business Case Support and Supply Chain & Supplier Relationship Management.
