National Portrait Gallery
The National Portrait Gallery’s Inspiring People project addresses the longstanding problems with visitor welcome, access, ticketing and circulation and transforms how the gallery presents itself as a national institution.
Works within the historic Grade I Listed building included a comprehensive re-presentation of the collection, refurbishment of the gallery spaces for both the permanent collection and temporary exhibitions, creation of a new entrance and forecourt to the gallery as well as new learning and commercial spaces.
Working alongside a design team lead by Jamie Fobert Architects, G&T’s procurement strategy de-risked the build through enabling works contracts, flexed to tackle the challenges and opportunities presented by COVID-19. It also enabled the introduction of significant additional scope arising from additional funding whilst meeting the agreed programme and integrating the re-hang of the gallery and commercial and exhibition fit-out.
The project has recently been shortlisted for the RIBA Stirling Prize 2024.
