Newcastle Gateshead Quays

One of the largest regeneration schemes to be undertaken in the North East, Newcastle Gateshead Quays includes an 12,500-capacity Indoor Arena, a major new Convention and Exhibition Centre and a dual branded hotel. The new facility will have the capacity to host major music and cultural events, community activities, international conferences and major exhibitions.

Located adjacent to the Millennium Bridge, BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art and The Sage Gateshead, the development will create a vibrant new hub which has been designed with biodiversity and sustainability at its core. Over 12,500m² of new public realm will be transformed with new seating areas and cycle provision to create a relaxing space for visitors.

The Ask:Patrizia team will develop the ambitious riverside site with main contractor Sir Robert McAlpine. The design team includes HOK as architects for the Arena and CoEx, AHR for the hotel, Arup for the structural and MEP engineering as well as Planit for all the public realm and landscaping. The project is being undertaken with close association with Gateshead Council who are one of the major stakeholders in the scheme. The Arena and Convention Centre will be managed by global operator ASM Global on completion.

G&T has been involved with the scheme since the early feasibility stages and construction is scheduled to commence on site in late Q1 2021.
