Challenge
Zenobē’s battery storage project represents a critical step in enhancing grid flexibility to support the UK’s transition to net zero. Phase 2 (a 100MW extension to the existing operational 200MW site) required delivering value for money within a highly compressed procurement timeline, while maintaining estimate accuracy in the face of fast-evolving battery technology. The remote site location and need for seamless integration with Phase 1 infrastructure added further complexity to the commercial strategy.
Solution
G&T provided end-to-end procurement, estimating and commercial support to help Zenobē navigate this fast-moving and technically complex programme. Our team produced bottom-up estimates and a detailed commercial pricing document to secure cost certainty. We advised on tenderer suitability, analysed returns using in-house intelligence and digital tools such as CostX and the G&T inflation calculator, and supported drafting and negotiation of contract terms. This structured approach enabled clear decision-making under pressure and ensured alignment with evolving programme, cost and quality benchmarks.
Outcome
While the tender process is ongoing, G&T’s involvement has provided Zenobē with the confidence to progress towards selecting a preferred supplier. Our strategic input has ensured the client has robust commercial visibility at a critical project juncture. Once delivered, the battery storage system will enhance the flexibility and resilience of the UK’s renewable grid by enabling storage and balancing of intermittent generation - supporting national net zero ambitions and the delivery of sustainable infrastructure.
