Challenge
The UK aims to bolster its renewable energy infrastructure by enhancing the transmission capacity between Scotland and England. The Eastern Green Link 2 (EGL2) project addresses this need by planning a 525kV, 2GW high-voltage direct current (HVDC) subsea transmission cable connecting Peterhead in Scotland to Drax in England. The challenge lies in managing this extensive project, which will be the UK's longest HVDC cable upon completion, ensuring effective coordination between stakeholders and maintaining rigorous control over costs, schedules, and risks.
Solution
G&T is supporting EGL2 by establishing key Project Management Office (PMO) functions, including change management, cost controls, and integrated digital reporting. This integrated system unifies all PMO data—costs, schedules, risks, resources, and changes—into a single platform, ensuring accurate and transparent reporting for the joint venture, parent companies, regulators, and external stakeholders.
Outcome
By implementing robust PMO functions, G&T is facilitating the efficient progression of the EGL2 project. This approach ensures that the project remains on track to enhance the UK's capacity to distribute renewable energy, supporting the transition to a more sustainable energy future.
