Challenge

Maggie’s aimed to develop a dedicated cancer support centre at University Hospital Southampton, designed to offer a calm, uplifting environment away from the clinical setting. The project needed to meet high architectural and experiential standards while remaining within the constraints of a charity-funded budget. Building on a live NHS campus added complexity, requiring careful planning and coordination to avoid disruption to ongoing hospital operations.

Solution

G&T provided Cost Management services, working closely with the client and design team to ensure the project’s ambitions were met within budget. From early-stage cost planning through to procurement and final account, we provided clear, accurate cost advice to support informed decision-making. G&T helped manage financial risk throughout the project, ensuring that the high-quality design could be delivered without compromise, while maintaining value for money and accountability to stakeholders and donors.

Outcome

The completed centre provides a welcoming, non-clinical space that supports the wellbeing of people affected by cancer across the region. Thanks to G&T’s cost management expertise, Maggie’s was able to realise its vision for a high-quality, emotionally supportive environment without exceeding budget. The project stands as a successful example of delivering architectural excellence with financial clarity in a healthcare context.
