Challenge
Opus is being delivered as a 50-storey residential tower within the wider Bankside Yards masterplan, occupying a complex site between Blackfriars Road, the railway viaduct and the River Thames. The challenge is to create 249 premium residences, extensive resident amenities and integrated infrastructure within a major mixed-use development, while supporting the refurbishment of historic railway arches and protecting adjacent Network Rail assets. The project also needs to contribute to the masterplan’s wider ambition for a connected, sustainable South Bank destination.
Solution
G&T is providing Project Management and Employer’s Agent services, helping to coordinate the delivery of the residential tower and its associated infrastructure within the wider Bankside Yards programme. The 170-metre tower will include four floors of resident amenities alongside high-quality homes. We are also supporting the integration and refurbishment of the historic Network Rail arches, helping to align new development with existing infrastructure, heritage assets and the broader objectives of the masterplan.
Outcome
Opus will form a key architectural feature on the South Bank and a central element of the £2.5bn Bankside Yards development. G&T’s role is helping to deliver new homes within the UK’s first fossil fuel-free mixed-use development in operation, alongside new retail, leisure and cultural space within the restored arches. The tower will support the transformation of Bankside Yards into a vibrant riverside neighbourhood that combines high-quality residential living with improved public realm and historic infrastructure.
