Challenge

As part of the national Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC) programme, the NHS identified a need to repurpose existing healthcare estate at the St Margaret’s Hospital site in Epping to expand local diagnostic capacity. The challenge was to convert a former outpatient clinic into a fully equipped diagnostic centre, capable of housing advanced imaging and testing facilities. This needed to be delivered within an accelerated programme and to stringent NHS design and performance standards.

Solution

G&T provided both Cost Management and Project Management services, ensuring that the scheme progressed efficiently from planning through to delivery. Our team supported the Trust in managing programme risks, controlling costs and maintaining quality throughout the fast-track works. We coordinated technical installations, oversaw contractor performance and ensured the design aligned with clinical workflows and equipment requirements—delivering a facility that met both NHS England’s CDC brief and the needs of local patients.

Outcome

St Margaret’s Community Diagnostic Centre now offers local access to a full range of diagnostic services including MRI, CT, X-ray, ultrasound and blood testing. The facility has reduced pressure on nearby acute hospitals and significantly improved patient experience through quicker access to care. Thanks to G&T’s leadership and oversight, the project was completed on time and within budget, delivering long-term value and supporting the NHS’s ambition to bring diagnostics closer to the community.
