Challenge

The Ark, a distinctive office building in Hammersmith designed by Ralph Erskine, required a comprehensive refurbishment to meet contemporary workplace standards. The challenge was to transform the building's unique architecture into a functional, flexible, and sustainable office environment that appeals to modern tenants, while preserving its iconic design.

Solution

G&T provided Project Management and Employer's Agent services throughout the refurbishment. Collaborating with architects Gensler and lighting designers Lichtvision, the project introduced a hospitality-inspired design, enhancing the building's appeal and functionality. Key interventions included the reconfiguration of internal spaces to improve flexibility, the integration of advanced lighting systems to balance natural and artificial light, and the incorporation of biophilic elements to promote wellbeing. These enhancements aimed to create an inviting and productive workspace that aligns with contemporary expectations.

Outcome

The revitalised Ark now offers a modern, sustainable office environment that respects its architectural heritage. The refurbishment has successfully transformed the building into a desirable destination for tenants seeking flexible, high-quality workspace in West London. G&T's expertise in ensured the delivery of a complex refurbishment that balances design integrity with modern functionality.
