Supporting young people to achieve their goals whilst encouraging a more diverse industry is a key focus for G&T’s 2022 NextGen programme. As part of this, NextGen champions senior project manager, Lucy Rose and executive surveyor, Olivia Ravan (Bestwick) are taking part in our charity partner 15 Billion’s Future Focus Mentoring Programme.

The initiative aims to support students aged 14-15 who have been identified as at risk of NEET (Not in Education, Employment or Training). Running for two years Lucy and Olivia will provide guidance and advice to help mentees studying for their GCSE’s set educational, personal and career objectives.

"It is great to be involved in 15 Billion's mentoring programme and to hopefully inspire others to consider surveying as a profession. I feel lucky to be able to share my knowledge with young people and help support a more inclusive industry fit for the future."

Olivia Ravan (Bestwick)

Executive Surveyor

"Since the programme's inception, pupils are more motivated, disciplined and focused on their education and futures. Through mentoring we want to encourage them to think big, aim high and focus on what they need to do to succeed and excel in their ambitions."

Taschan Anthrobus

Programmes Manager, 15 BillionEBP

Alongside mentoring, students on the programme also get access to employability and wellbeing sessions such as, resilience training and job skills activities. The aim is that the students gain the confidence to successfully complete their final years in secondary school, progressing into further education or apprenticeships.

"Mentoring benefits the mentor just as much as the students. We get a wider understanding of the issues that affect young people and gain valuable communication skills that can be used within our professional and personal life."

Lucy Rose

Senior Project Manager
