Woolworth Tower

Completed in 1913 and once the tallest building in the world, the Woolworth Building remains one of Lower Manhattan’s defining landmarks. Converting its upper 30 floors into residences required navigating the complexities of a historic skyscraper, preserving its architectural character, and carrying out construction while the commercial offices on the floors below remained occupied.

G&T initially provided Due Diligence and Development Monitoring services for the investment group before taking on Project and Cost Management responsibilities for the development. The conversion created 32 residences designed by Thierry W. Despont, alongside a historic façade restoration, new residential lobby and elevators.

The Woolworth Tower Residences give a new purpose to the upper reaches of the landmark while retaining the character that defines it. Thirty floors once associated with one of New York’s great commercial skyscrapers now form an intimate residential address overlooking City Hall Park and Lower Manhattan.
