City of London Approves Groundbreaking 60 Gracechurch Street Development
The City of London Corporation has given the green light to an innovative new development at 60 Gracechurch Street, designed by the acclaimed architectural firm 3XN.
The ambitious scheme, brought forward by Sellar and Obayashi, represents a bold step in creating sustainable and accessible urban spaces in the heart of the Square Mile.
G&T is providing Project Management services alongside 3XN (design architect), Adamson Associates (executive architect), Turner & Townsend Alinea (cost consultant), Arup (structural engineer), DP9 (planning consultant) and Velocity (transport consultant).
"We have a clear aim for 60 Gracechurch Street to one of the Square Mile's most sustainable and wellness-focused workplaces."James Sellar
Chief Executive of Sellar

The proposed 35-storey tower will deliver approximately 52,000m² of Grade A office space, along with a host of public amenities designed to transform the site into a dynamic and community-focused destination. The building will replace the existing Allianz House, a nine-storey mid-1900s structure with 13,300m² of office space.
One of the development's standout features is the 'Sanctuary' - a free-to-access evening destination located on the 35th floor. This space, coupled with a public roof garden, offers panoramic views of the City and an immersive educational experience. The garden has been designed to act as a living classroom, showcasing an evolving ecosystem that reflects the City's response to climate change. This unique offering promises to be one of London's most exciting and accessible public spaces.
To minimise its environmental impact, the development will avoid basement excavation and will be 100% powered by electricity. This aligns with the City of London's Climate Action Strategy, aiming for net zero carbon emissions while fostering innovative and sustainable development practices.
Shravan Joshi, Chairman of the City of London Planning and Transportation Committee, commented: "The 60 Gracechurch Street proposals align perfectly with our City Plan, Climate Action Strategy and Destination City programme. This development delivers much-needed Grade A office space, a new visitor and educational attraction, and supports our net zero goals."
Jarrard Howe, G&T partner added: "G&T is proud to play a pivotal role in delivering 60 Gracechurch Street, a development that sets a new benchmark for sustainability, innovation and public engagement in the heart of London. This project represents a bold vision for the future of urban spaces, combining state-of-the-art office facilities with transformative public amenities, all while prioritising environmental responsibility."
The 60 Gracechurch Street project underscores London's commitment to creating future-ready urban spaces that balance commercial needs, environmental stewardship and public engagement.
