Plans have been approved by Islington Council for a new 200,000 sq ft science and technology building in London's Knowledge Quarter and Innovation District.

The former industrial site will be transformed into a purpose built first class, commercial building with capability for laboratory, research and office space, designed to appeal to and meet the needs of science and technology end users who are attracted to the Knowledge Quarter cluster.

"The project will deliver dramatic public realm improvements and provide much-needed office, science and technology workspace."

Nathan Watt

Development Director, Delancey

G&T is providing Project Management and Principal Designer & CDM Consultancy services. The nine-storey building designed by KPF will comprise 130,000 sq ft of world-class research and laboratory space, 13,000 sq ft of affordable workspace alongside mixed-use, flexible community, events and makers' spaces as well as public realm enhancements and highly sustainable design features.

With the development targeting Nabers 4.5+ stars, passive and active strategies have been taken to reduce the whole life carbon including an all-electric MEP strategy, roof mounted solar PV and optimised external shading to reduce operational energy as well as careful material selection and structural efficiencies to reduce embodied carbon.

Nathan Watt, Development Director at Delancey said: "We are delighted to have secured resolution to grant planning unanimously for this progressive, innovatively designed development that offers cutting-edge sustainable facilities.  The project will deliver dramatic public realm improvements and provide much-needed office, science and technology workspace."

G&T partner Jarrard Howe added: "It's been an incredibly rewarding experience to work on a landmark building that will provide high quality workspace and clear public benefits in this prominent area of London."
