Challenge
Parabola’s vision for Edinburgh Park was to evolve it from a traditional business park into a vibrant, mixed-use urban quarter. The inaugural development, 1 New Park Square, aimed to set the standard—delivering a net-zero carbon office building that would integrate seamlessly with public amenities, cultural spaces and sustainable transport links. The challenge lay in balancing ambitious environmental targets with the creation of a flexible, community-focused workspace that could serve as a catalyst for the wider regeneration of the area.
Solution
G&T provided Cost Management, Project Management, and Principal Designer & CDM Consultancy services to bring this vision to life. Working closely with the client and design team, we ensured that the project adhered to its sustainability goals while maintaining budgetary and programme constraints. The building features exposed concrete for thermal mass, openable windows for natural ventilation and an all-electric energy strategy powered by renewable sources. Our oversight facilitated the integration of community amenities—including a café, gastro bar, performance space and conference facilities—into the ground floor, fostering a sense of place and encouraging social interaction.
Outcome
Completed as the first building in the southern phase of the Edinburgh Park masterplan, 1 New Park Square delivers 87,500 sq ft of Grade A office space above publicly accessible amenities. The project achieved BREEAM 'Excellent' and EPC A ratings, reflecting its strong environmental performance. G&T’s involvement ensured that the development met its net-zero carbon objectives, provided high-quality workspace and contributed to the transformation of Edinburgh Park into a dynamic, sustainable urban destination.
