Challenge

The University of Manchester embarked on significantly refurbishing the Graham and Ewings Wings within Dalton-Ellis House, aiming to modernise 106 student rooms. The project needed to align with the university's Environmental Sustainability Strategy, targeting a zero carbon footprint by 2038. Challenges included upgrading facilities to contemporary standards while preserving the historic character of the buildings and ensuring minimal disruption to students and staff.

Solution

G&T provided Project Management services, overseeing the refurbishment process. The project encompassed comprehensive upgrades to student rooms, including new flooring, redecoration and enhancements to communal areas. We coordinated with contractors and university stakeholders to ensure that the works were completed efficiently, sustainably and in line with the university's strategic goals.

Outcome

The successful refurbishment of the Graham and Ewings Wings has delivered modern, comfortable and energy-efficient accommodation for students. The project supports the university's commitment to sustainability and enhances the student living experience. G&T's effective management ensured the project was delivered on time and within budget, contributing to the university's broader objectives for campus development.
