Challenge
Following the 2012 London Olympics, the former Press and Broadcast Centres in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park presented a significant opportunity for regeneration. The challenge was to repurpose these vast, windowless structures into a vibrant campus that would attract creative and digital industries, fostering innovation and collaboration. The project aimed to honour the Olympic legacy while delivering substantial economic and social benefits to the local community.
Solution
G&T provided Cost Management services throughout the transformation of the site into Here East. Collaborating closely with the design and construction teams, G&T ensured that the project remained within budget while achieving high standards of quality and sustainability. Key interventions included the complete replacement of the façade, incorporating eight million digitally printed dots to provide solar shading—one of the largest digitally printed façades in Europe. The development also introduced new public spaces, retail units, and state-of-the-art facilities to support a diverse range of tenants.
Outcome
Here East has successfully evolved into a leading innovation campus, home to organisations such as BT Sport, Loughborough University, Studio Wayne McGregor, UCL, and Infinity SDC. The site now offers over one million square feet of versatile space dedicated to creative and digital enterprises. The project has received multiple accolades, including the RIBA London Regional Award and the BCO National Award for "Refurbished/Recycled Workplace". G&T's strategic cost management was instrumental in delivering a project that not only revitalised a key Olympic site but also established a dynamic ecosystem for innovation and enterprise.
