Challenge
Lochranza Distillery, located on the Isle of Arran and operational since 1995, needed increased production capacity while managing a constrained waterfront site steeped in environmental sensitivity. The brief included accommodating four additional 13,000-litre timber washbacks, improving ventilation systems, and enhancing visitor accessibility—all without disrupting ongoing production or compromising the distillery’s historic charm.
Solution
G&T was appointed to provide Cost Management and Project Management services, navigating a two-stage tender process from design through to construction. In close partnership with architect Denham Youd and structural and M&E consultants, we oversaw procurement for civil, structural, and fit-out works. We managed cost forecasting, contractor appointment, and budget control, while ensuring the extension met design intent, maintained production operations, and safeguarded site value.
Outcome
Construction is underway, with the new washback extension delivering enhanced production capacity, improved ventilation, accessible visitor lifts and stair access integrated into the existing distillery complex. Once complete, the project will support increased whisky output and offer an enriched tour experience—reinforcing Lochranza’s profile as a production powerhouse and tourist destination. G&T’s ongoing cost and project oversight continue to secure delivery confidence.
