Challenge
To enhance the reliability and capacity of London's electricity supply, National Grid initiated the second phase of the London Power Tunnels project (LPT2). This £1 billion initiative involves constructing 32.5 km of deep underground tunnels, measuring 4 metres in diameter, stretching from Wimbledon in south-west London to Crayford in south-east London. The project aims to futureproof the capital's electricity infrastructure while minimising surface disruption during maintenance. Given the project's scale and complexity, effective procurement, contract administration, and programme controls are essential to ensure its successful delivery.
Solution
G&T has been appointed to provide Contract Administration, Procurement, and Programme & Project Controls services for LPT2. Our responsibilities include managing procurement processes to secure suitable contractors and suppliers, administering contracts to ensure compliance with terms and conditions, and overseeing programme controls to monitor progress, budgets, and risks. Our expertise ensures that the project adheres to its schedule and budget while maintaining the highest standards of quality and safety.
Outcome
Upon completion, LPT2 will significantly bolster London's electricity transmission network, accommodating future demand and reducing maintenance-related disruptions. The new infrastructure will enhance the resilience of the capital's power supply, supporting its growth and sustainability objectives. G&T's involvement has been pivotal in navigating the project's complexities, ensuring its alignment with strategic goals and successful execution.
