Challenge
Edinburgh’s Meadowbank Sports Centre, originally opened for the Commonwealth Games in 1970, had fallen into disrepair and struggled to meet contemporary accessibility and programme needs. The City of Edinburgh Council required a complete rebuild to deliver a 15,000 m² facility that would provide diverse sporting opportunities—athletics, football, fitness, gymnastics, community events—for all ages and abilities.
Solution
G&T was appointed to provide Cost Management services throughout the redevelopment process. We implemented rigorous cost control and value-engineering alongside the Council and design team, ensuring the full rebuild—including two games halls, indoor athletics arena, fitness suites, café and changing facilities—remained on budget. We supported procurement of a new FIFA‑standard pitch, resurfacing of the iconic running track, and installation of a 3G pitch and field athletics facilities, all while helping the client maximise value and manage financial risks.
Outcome
The completed Meadowbank Sports Centre now stands as a fully modernised, accessible and vibrant community facility. The £multi‑million redevelopment delivers a legacy asset that enhances physical, mental and social wellbeing across Edinburgh, offering high-quality venues for training, competition, and leisure. G&T’s Cost Management expertise ensured the project achieved its objectives without compromise—laying the foundation for a centre ready to serve future generations.
