Challenge
Harrow School recognised the need to modernise its science education facilities to maintain its reputation for academic excellence. The existing biology and chemistry laboratories were outdated and insufficient to support contemporary teaching methods and the growing interest in STEM subjects among students. The challenge was to design and construct a new facility that would provide state-of-the-art laboratories and lecture spaces, all while integrating seamlessly into the historic campus setting.
Solution
To address this, Harrow School embarked on the development of the New Biology and Chemistry Schools, a three-storey building encompassing 14 state-of-the-art laboratories and a 180-seat lecture theatre. G&T provided Cost Management services, ensuring that the project met the school's educational objectives and adhered to budgetary constraints. The design features a gently curving main façade that defines a new cross-route linking the main academic buildings to the school's dining hall, reflecting a thoughtful integration with the existing campus architecture.
Outcome
The completion of the New Biology and Chemistry Schools has set a new standard for science education at Harrow School. The facility's modern laboratories and lecture spaces have enhanced the learning experience, fostering greater engagement in STEM subjects among students. G&T's involvement was instrumental in delivering a project that not only meets current educational needs but also positions the school to adapt to future advancements in science education.
