Challenge
The final phase of the £500 million Buchanan Wharf regeneration aimed to transform a former industrial brownfield site on the south bank of the River Clyde into a vibrant, sustainable urban quarter. The challenge was to deliver a 75,000 sq ft Grade A office building that would meet stringent sustainability targets, including BREEAM 'Excellent' and NABERS 5 Star ratings, while integrating seamlessly into the wider masterplan and public realm improvements.
Solution
G&T provided Cost Management and Life Cycle Costing services throughout the development. Working closely with the client and design team, we ensured the project aligned with UK Green Building Council’s Advancing Net Zero principles. The building design prioritised operational carbon reduction, incorporating efficient structural and façade systems, recycled steelwork, low-carbon concrete and rooftop photovoltaics, along with high-performance building services.
Outcome
Completed in 2023, Stac is now a standout example of low-carbon commercial development in Glasgow, contributing to the city’s regeneration and climate goals. The building delivers flexible, sustainable workspace designed to support modern working practices, with a strong focus on occupant wellbeing. G&T’s leadership helped ensure the project was delivered on time, on budget and to the highest environmental standards.
