Challenge
Situated in Earl's Court, London, Templeton Garden comprises seven Victorian terraced houses, collectively operating as a 156-room hotel. The challenge was to refurbish the existing structures and integrate a new ground floor and basement extension to accommodate a restaurant, meeting room, and gym facilities. Additionally, the expansive private garden at the rear required re-landscaping to enhance the hotel's unique appeal. Balancing the preservation of the buildings' historical character with the introduction of modern amenities necessitated meticulous planning and design.
Solution
G&T provided Cost Management and Project Management services, guiding the project through the early design stages and a pre-application process with the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea ahead of the planning submission in November 2022. A mock-up room was constructed within the existing hotel to inform the roll-out design, allowing for the testing of on-site construction details, logistics, and constraints. This approach ensured that the refurbishment and extension plans were both practical and aligned with the hotel's operational needs.
Outcome
The Templeton Garden project successfully transformed the Victorian terraced houses into a modern hotel that honours its historical roots while offering contemporary comforts. The addition of new facilities, including a restaurant, meeting room, and gym, has enhanced the guest experience. The re-landscaped private garden provides a tranquil retreat within the bustling city, distinguishing the hotel in the competitive London hospitality market. G&T's strategic management ensured that the project progressed smoothly through the planning stages, setting the foundation for a successful refurbishment and extension.
