Challenge

Set within the St James Quarter, the W Edinburgh spans three distinct buildings — the Ribbon Building, James Craig Walk and Quarter House — creating a 244-key, five-star hotel in a dense urban setting. The scheme introduced a highly bespoke and design-led offering into the heart of the historic city. G&T faced the logistical and coordination challenge of delivering a premium fit-out over a live retail development and alongside other concurrent fit-out projects across the wider site.

Solution

G&T provided Cost Management, Project Management, Principal Designer & CDM Consultancy and Construction & Property Tax Advice services, developing bespoke procurement strategies to address cost and programme complexity while maintaining control over design quality. Working closely with the client and design teams, we supported the fit-out of 199 rooms and 45 suites, several with private terraces. Signature spaces include the UK's first W brand Sound Suite recording studio, rooftop bars and restaurants (including Sushi Samba), a spa, and tailored wellness and event facilities — all delivered to a highly curated standard of luxury.

Outcome

W Edinburgh has emerged as a landmark hospitality destination, blending bold contemporary design with the cultural richness of its historic surroundings. G&T's hands-on leadership enabled the client to realise their vision for a unique, design-forward hotel that enhances the city’s international appeal and delivers a distinctive guest experience.
