"There are opportunities within the business to work in varied sectors and locations across projects ranging in value, with a diverse and highly qualified team."

Khalid is a graduate quantity surveyor.

What prompted you to apply to G&T?

I discovered G&T whilst studying Construction Cost Management (MSc) at the University of Reading. Upon further research, I discovered that G&T has an excellent portfolio in delivering exciting projects across the UK & North America in sectors that interested me. I also noted that G&T has a high success rate of candidates passing their APC through their 24-month Chartership Programme. Both of which were strong factors in my application to G&T.

Please describe a typical working day

The phrase: ‘no two days are the same’ comes to mind. I find myself working on a variety of projects at different stages, and learning something new every day. I work on both base build and fit-out schemes within the retail, hospitality, and commercial sectors. I undertake both pre-contract and post-contract duties of a Quantity Surveyor, which can, for example, include the following • Producing Cost Estimates / Cost Plans • Attending Design Meetings & Budget Control • Devising a Procurement & Tendering Strategy • Tendering Projects • Measurements • Valuations • Cost Reporting • Risk Management

What do you enjoy most about being on the Chartership Programme?

The Chartership Programme is organised with structured seminars throughout the year, which focus on key subjects. Having this alongside a cohort of other graduates and apprentices that are all working towards the same goal gives a sense of community and support, which perhaps candidates from other firms do not benefit from.

For anyone thinking of applying, what reasons would you give to encourage them to do so?

G&T has an unrivaled reputation and delivers world-class projects across the UK and North America. There are opportunities within the business to work in varied sectors and locations across projects ranging in value, with a diverse and highly qualified team. Furthermore, the Chartership Programme is one of the best within the industry and the support given from all levels within the organisation puts anyone in good stead to pass their APC. From an overall positive experience at G&T, I would personally recommend any graduate/apprentice to apply.
