Challenge
The site at 180 Arlington Road and 14 Parkway in the heart of Camden Town was underutilised, previously home to a Mecca Bingo hall and the ODEON Camden Parkway cinema. Despite its central location, it lacked purpose and vitality. The challenge was to bring forward a development that would reflect Camden’s creative heritage, while meeting urgent local needs for housing, student accommodation, and public realm improvements.
Solution
G&T is providing Cost Management services to support the client and its strategic advisor's (Shaw Corporation) vision for a mixed-use regeneration. The proposed development will deliver a high-quality cultural venue, a mix of affordable homes and student bedrooms, replacing largely blank frontages with lively building frontages providing new restaurants, shops, cafe space and greening, making the area more vibrant, welcoming, and safer for all. Our cost advice has been instrumental in balancing design ambition with financial viability, ensuring that high-quality landscaping, communal spaces, and sustainable building features are delivered within budget.
Outcome
The development will deliver a vibrant, inclusive destination that enhances the urban fabric of Camden Town, bringing people together and celebrating the area's vibrant cultural offer. It will reintroduce cultural activity to the site, provide essential affordable housing and high-quality student living, and improve public access through thoughtfully designed outdoor spaces. With G&T's cost management expertise ensuring value at every stage, the project is set to become a benchmark for creative, community-centred regeneration in London.
