Challenge

Teesside University sought to enhance its educational infrastructure by developing a state-of-the-art facility for its School of Computing, Engineering & Digital Technologies.  The objective was to create a building that not only provided cutting-edge research, teaching and learning spaces but also embodied the University's commitment to sustainability through achieving Net Zero embodied carbon and BREEAM 'Outstanding' certifications.

Solution

To realise this vision, the University collaborated with G&T, who provided Cost Consultancy and Project Management services.  The resulting Digital Life Building incorporates smart laboratories, digital art studios, a multi-functional lecture theatre and a large flexible events space.  Designed to simulate an industry-quality digital studio experience, the facility serves as a catalyst for physical and digital collaboration among students, businesses, and visitors.

Outcome

The Digital Life Building stands as a testament to Teesside University's dedication to fostering innovation and sustainability.  By achieving Net Zero embodied carbon and targeting BREEAM 'Outstanding' status, the project underscores the University's commitment to a responsible digital future.  G&T's expertise in cost and project management was instrumental in delivering a facility that not only meets the current needs of the academic community but also positions the University at the forefront of sustainable educational development.
