Challenge

Located next to two of London’s most recognisable buildings—The Shard and The News Building—Shard Place forms the third phase of development at Shard Quarter. The project required the delivery of a high-rise residential scheme in a densely populated urban environment, with limited site access and strict logistical constraints. It also needed to harmonise architecturally with its iconic neighbours while maximising both space and quality for future residents.

Solution

G&T provided Cost Management services throughout the project, supporting the client team in delivering a 27-storey residential-led development comprising 176 high-quality private apartments. Designed by Renzo Piano Building Workshop, the building is elevated above ground level to create an active retail frontage and enhanced public realm along St Thomas Street. We coordinated key project milestones to align with the phased masterplan, including integration with infrastructure and surrounding developments.

Outcome

Now complete, Shard Place brings a refined residential presence to Shard Quarter, offering studio, one, two and three-bedroom homes, many with naturally ventilated winter gardens. Communal amenities are thoughtfully placed across levels 4, 16, 17 and 27, offering residents expansive views and a strong sense of vertical community. The project contributes to the evolving mix of uses at Shard Quarter and enhances connectivity, vibrancy and liveability in this key part of central London.
