Challenge
The National Theatre required a new storage facility to house its extensive collection of costumes, props, and scenery. The challenge was to repurpose 3,350m² of existing warehouse and office space in Bermondsey to accommodate these items, while ensuring the preservation of delicate materials through optimal climate control. Additionally, the project aimed to enhance the building's thermal performance and upgrade office and public spaces, all within a constrained budget.
Solution
G&T provided Cost Management services, overseeing financial planning and budget adherence throughout the project. Key upgrades included the installation of a 1,100m² mezzanine structure with associated vertical transportation to increase storage capacity, improvements to the building’s thermal performance, and refurbishment of office and public areas. Extensive new Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) services were installed to ensure optimal climate control for preserving delicate items, supporting the sustainable daily operations of the facility.
Outcome
The successful completion of the Green Store provided the National Theatre with a state-of-the-art storage facility that meets its current and future needs. G&T's effective cost management ensured the project was delivered within budget, achieving the desired quality and functionality. The upgraded facility enhances the preservation of valuable theatrical assets and supports the National Theatre's ongoing operations.
