Challenge

Kent and Canterbury Hospital needed to upgrade two ageing operating theatres to meet growing surgical demand and evolving clinical standards. The existing spaces were no longer suitable for modern surgical procedures, lacking the necessary infrastructure, space and technical capability. The challenge was to deliver a full refurbishment within a live hospital environment—without compromising patient care or disrupting adjacent clinical services.

Solution

G&T provided Project Management services, leading the scheme from planning through to completion. We coordinated the design and construction teams, managed key programme risks, and maintained regular engagement with hospital staff to ensure minimal disruption to clinical operations. G&T’s structured approach kept the project on track, ensured compliance with HTM/HBN requirements, and supported the delivery of high-quality, future-ready surgical environments.

Outcome

Theatres 4 and 5 have been successfully transformed into modern, fully compliant operating suites equipped to support a broad range of surgical procedures. The redevelopment has enhanced surgical capacity, improved clinical workflows, and created safer, more efficient environments for both patients and staff. G&T’s project management ensured the successful delivery of the theatres, providing the Trust with high-performance clinical spaces that support safe, efficient, and modern surgical care.
