Reimagining the modern campus

Creating a vibrant mixed-use environment for learning, living and local connection

Client

University of Brighton

Location

Brighton

Challenge

The University of Brighton aimed to revitalise its Moulsecoomb campus, situated along Lewes Road, by addressing the need for modern student accommodation, updated academic facilities, and improved infrastructure. The challenge was to execute a comprehensive redevelopment that not only met the university's expansion goals but also integrated seamlessly with the surrounding community, enhancing the area's appeal and functionality.

Solution

G&T provided Cost Management and Life Cycle Costing services for the £150 million redevelopment project. The scheme encompassed the construction of approximately 800 student units through a Design, Build, Finance, and Operate (DBFO) model, the development of new academic buildings, the reprovision of around 600 car parking spaces, and extensive site-wide infrastructure and public realm improvements. Our expertise ensured that the project was delivered efficiently, with a focus on sustainability and long-term value.

Outcome

The Moulsecoomb redevelopment has significantly enhanced the University of Brighton's campus, providing state-of-the-art facilities that cater to the needs of students and staff. The integration of modern accommodation and academic spaces has fostered a vibrant learning environment, while the improved infrastructure and public areas have strengthened the connection between the university and the local community. G&T's strategic involvement was instrumental in delivering a project that supports the university's growth and contributes positively to the urban landscape of Brighton
