Challenge
Glasgow City Council identified a need to reduce traffic dominance and enhance connectivity around George Square, aiming to revitalise the city centre’s public realm and promote sustainable travel. The existing streetscape, heavily trafficked and car-centric, was constraining pedestrian movement and failing to reflect the civic importance of George Square as a cultural and social hub.
Solution
G&T is providing Cost Management, Portfolio & Programme Management, and Principal Designer & CDM Consultancy services for Block C of the Avenues programme. We are working closely with Glasgow City Council to support the design and delivery of major public realm upgrades, with a focus on placemaking, active travel, and environmental sustainability. Our team is managing cost planning, stakeholder coordination, and compliance with health and safety regulations, while ensuring the evolving design remains commercially viable and aligned with the programme’s broader regeneration goals.
Outcome
Block C is already contributing to the reshaping of Glasgow’s urban core. Once complete, the project will create safer, greener, and more accessible public spaces around George Square—encouraging walking, cycling, and social activity. G&T’s ongoing support is helping to manage risk, optimise value, and keep the project on track, forming a key part of the city’s long-term strategy to deliver a more liveable, inclusive and connected centre.
