Challenge
The historic Duff House Vinery, Bothy, and Angel Tower in Banff, Category A listed structures, had remained unused for over a decade, leading to significant deterioration. The challenge was to restore these buildings to provide high-quality social, educational, and inclusive spaces for the local community, while preserving their architectural heritage.
Solution
G&T provided Cost Management services for the comprehensive restoration project. Collaborating closely with Aberdeenshire Council and Aberdeen Foyer, we managed budget control, procurement strategies, and financial planning. Our expertise ensured that the restoration adhered to conservation best practices, addressing structural issues and integrating modern amenities without compromising the buildings' historical integrity.
Outcome
The revitalised Vinery now serves as a welcoming community kitchen and café, with the restored glass vinery offering a south-facing growing environment for horticultural activities. The facility provides a fully accessible indoor growing space and a horticultural skills base, supporting activities focused on health, wellbeing, and education. G&T's meticulous cost management was instrumental in delivering the project within budget, ensuring the long-term sustainability of this cherished community asset.
